The Canton Fair began in 1957 and has become one of the largest trade events on the international trade calendar. This China trade event is hosted by the China Foreign Trade Center (CFTC) and co-sponsored by the Ministry of Commerce of China and the Guangdong Provincial Government. Considering its start date and consistency, it is considered the oldest and largest trade event in the People’s Republic of China (PRC). Therefore, it remains the highest revenue-generating trade show in China. Together with other exhibitions held in Guangzhou and Shanghai, the total number of venues operated by CFTC in these areas reaches a total of approximately 10.7 million square meters of global exhibition facilities. The Canton Fair is held twice a year, in April and October each year. The exhibition displays a total of 16 major categories of products, held in three phases, covering industrial products and consumer goods. Last year, each edition of the show attracted more than 31,000 exhibitors and 190,000 visitors. So how to participate in the Canton Fair?

To attend the Canton Fair, you need to obtain an invitation letter required to apply for a Chinese visa. Once at the Canton Fair, you will then receive a Buyer card (badge). This is the only official way to participate in the Canton Fair.
Preparations before attending the Canton Fair
1. Admission pass
Visa: Start the visa application process at least two months before the exhibition. Start the process as early as possible by contacting the nearest Chinese consulate or embassy.
Invitation letter: It can be obtained from the exhibitor or directly from the Canton Fair by applying for an electronic invitation letter.
Registration and badges: Pre-register online to avoid long lines. You will receive a confirmation message which you will need to present to collect your admission pass.
2. Accommodation and transportation
Hotels: In addition to booking in advance, make sure your hotel is close to a metro station. The exhibition grounds are easily accessible by metro.
Local transportation: Be familiar with Guangzhou’s subway system. This is the most efficient way to travel during the exhibition.
3. Reservation
If you wish to meet with a specific supplier, please make an appointment in advance. This ensures that you have their undivided attention during the meeting.
